Step Mixer
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Step Mixer (“the App”) provided by Step Interactive, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “developer”).
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. License and permitted use
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal or commercial audio mixing for lawful purposes.
You may not:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App except where applicable law permits it, a third-party license grants that right, or the LGPL permission in section 5 applies
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute proprietary Step Interactive materials except through an authorized distribution channel or with our permission; third-party materials remain subject to their own licenses
- Use the App to violate law, another person’s rights, a platform’s rules, or an online service’s terms
The limitations in these Terms, including the limited, non-transferable, revocable nature of the App license, do not replace or restrict rights granted under third-party licenses. The permissions and license priority described in section 5 apply throughout these Terms.
2. Audio and content responsibility
You control which microphones, applications, files, and devices the App uses. You are responsible for having any permission required to capture, mix, monitor, transmit, stream, or play audio and for complying with applicable copyright, privacy, recording-consent, game, chat, and platform rules.
Do not use the App to intercept, reproduce, or transmit protected, private, or unauthorized content.
3. App status and availability
The App is currently provided at no cost. We may modify, update, restrict, suspend, or discontinue features or the App at any time.
Audio compatibility and performance can vary with Windows, hardware, drivers, applications, and third-party services.
4. Optional donations
Step Interactive provides an optional link to Ko-fi for donations. Donations are voluntary, are processed by Ko-fi outside the App, and do not purchase the App, unlock features, create supporter status, or guarantee support, updates, or future products.
Any donation payment, receipt, refund, dispute, or account issue is governed by Ko-fi and the payment provider used for that transaction.
5. Third-party software and services
The App may work with separately installed virtual-audio software such as VB-Cable and may open external websites. Third-party products and services are not controlled by Step Interactive and are governed by their own licenses, terms, privacy policies, support, and availability.
The App includes open-source and third-party runtime components whose notices are available from the App’s Legal screen.
Optional voice-enhancement download
The ClearVoice voice-enhancement component is a separate, optional download. Its third-party licenses apply to that download, including its model weights, code, libraries, and runtime dependencies. Those materials retain their own licenses and are excluded from Step Interactive’s proprietary ownership restrictions. You do not need to obtain the optional download to use the App’s other features.
The App’s Legal screen provides “Optional Voice Enhancement Licenses.” When the optional component is installed, its full notices are available there offline. The download also includes StepMixer’s supplemental application terms, applicable third-party notices, and source and replacement instructions for its LGPL libraries.
LGPL modification and debugging permission
For works that use libsndfile or libsoxr, including the Python-SoXR binding, in the optional download, recipients may modify those works for their own use and reverse engineer them to debug such modifications to the extent required by section 6 of the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 2.1. This includes using compatible modified libraries through the documented local replacement mechanisms without editing the signed package files.
To the extent Step Interactive, LLC controls the relevant rights, this permission prevails over conflicting restrictions on modification, reverse engineering, decompilation, disassembly, or replacement in these Terms or other StepMixer application terms, including the Microsoft Store Standard Application License Terms. It does not grant a right to redistribute proprietary Step Interactive materials or limit broader rights under applicable law or third-party licenses.
Intel components
The optional download’s Intel OpenMP and Intel MKL components are supplied under the included Intel Simplified Software License. Its restrictions apply to the Intel Software identified by that license, rather than to StepMixer, the LGPL libraries, or model weights generally. Step Interactive does not grant permission to modify or reverse engineer Intel Software or change Intel’s license terms. Third-party programs identified in Intel’s notices remain governed by their applicable third-party terms. The LGPL permission above is a grant concerning rights controlled by Step Interactive, LLC; it is not a grant of Intel’s rights.
If these Terms conflict with a third-party license concerning that third-party material, the third-party license governs. Nothing in these Terms limits rights provided by applicable law.
Step Interactive is not affiliated with or endorsed by the developers of the optional model or third-party software.
6. Updates and Microsoft Store
Updates distributed through Microsoft Store are also subject to Microsoft Store terms and policies. Section 5 preserves the stated LGPL permissions for rights controlled by Step Interactive; it does not change Microsoft’s services agreement or platform rules. We do not guarantee support for every Windows version, device, driver, or third-party application.
7. Intellectual property
The original code, design, text, logos, and branding created by Step Interactive, LLC for the App are proprietary and protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Third-party code, libraries, model weights, and other materials remain the property of their respective owners and are governed by their own licenses. This ownership statement does not restrict the permissions in section 5 or rights granted by third-party licenses.
8. Disclaimer
The App is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted operation, audio quality, latency, compatibility, or data preservation.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Step Interactive, LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost audio, content, data, profits, opportunities, or use arising from or related to the App.
Your sole remedy if dissatisfied with the App is to stop using and uninstall it.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. Continued use of the App after an update takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
